BTC regime and altseason
What Bitcoin is doing sets the weather for everything else. Two numbers say whether alts have room to move on their own.

Why Bitcoin decides the weather
Altcoins correlate with Bitcoin far more than most traders assume, and the correlation rises exactly when it hurts: in sharp moves, almost everything moves together.
A perfect setup on an altcoin fails routinely for a reason that has nothing to do with the altcoin — Bitcoin moved, and correlation did the rest. That is why the regime sits on the card at all.
The three regimes
The regime is computed from Bitcoin's moving averages and volatility on the 4-hour chart, and reads as UP, DOWN or FLAT.
FLAT is the most useful of the three, and the least obvious. A quiet Bitcoin means altcoins move on their own reasons — which is exactly when a setup on an altcoin is about that altcoin. A trending Bitcoin drags everything with it, and individual analysis matters less.
The altseason index
It measures the share of the top 50 altcoins that outperformed Bitcoin over 30 days. Above 75 is conventionally called altseason: money is rotating out of Bitcoin into everything else.
A low reading is equally informative. It says money is concentrated in Bitcoin, and altcoin ideas are fighting the flow rather than riding it.
Reading the two together
BTC flat plus a high altseason index is the friendliest combination for altcoin trading: room to move, and money flowing that way.
BTC trending hard plus a low index is the opposite — altcoin setups become bets on Bitcoin whether you intended that or not. Neither combination is a signal; both change how much weight a single-coin analysis deserves.
Common questions
- Why does an altcoin setup need the BTC regime?
- Because correlation rises precisely in fast moves. A clean setup can fail purely because Bitcoin moved, and knowing the regime tells you how much of the risk is not about your coin at all.
- What does FLAT actually mean?
- Bitcoin's averages and volatility show no clear direction. That is the friendliest state for altcoin analysis: coins move on their own reasons rather than being dragged.
- Is a high altseason index a reason to buy alts?
- It describes what has already happened over 30 days, not what comes next. It is context — it says the flow has been favourable, not that it will continue.
